Namibia is a BIG country! Long, long distances, and you need to plan where to fuel up! From Keetmanshoop, we travelled to Windhoek, and from there to Toshari Lodge. That was a beautiful place just outside Etosha National Park. We had a nice buffet dinner, and again breakfast before we headed to the gate. During dinner, the staff entertained the guests with their beautiful voices and dancing.
The landscape alternated between grassland and areas with shrubby/short trees. The thorn trees were in bloom, and their beautiful yellow flowers and a distinct smell took me back to my grandparents’ farm many decades ago!
We were amazed at the number of animals in the park! Plenty of Zebra, Thompson’s Gazelles (Springboks), Giraffe, and also animals that we don’t normally see in Zambia – like Oryx (Gemsbok).
The best sighting for me was a Black Rhino! He came to the water hole just before sunset and was, unlike the other nervous animals, not scared to just walk up straight to drink water.

We camped at Halali and Namutoni areas within the Etosha Park. Both of them had great washroom facilities with hot water and a water hole with lights at night.
