Margret and Griet (Margaritha)

Friday Sept 5th, was a big day! The ladies selected to make another bag for the final item, and they all got dressed in their best, as we would visit Victoria Falls after the training!

But Friday was also a day I felt out of my depth with sewing instruction! With Kizzy’s help, we had planned to make another bag, demonstrating the use of scrap material to make a quilted pattern, and then use that as one side of the bag. We had a beautiful piece of velvet cloth, which we cut to form the starter square on the quilted side, as well as the plain outside of the bag. Kizzy had another task of making a dress based on a pattern, and was occupied with that, while I started off teaching the outer bag.

It was all good and well, but I started panicking when I realised we did not have enough fabric for the lining part of the bag, and that I didn’t really know how to put the bags together (even though I managed to follow the step-by-step instructions on Day 1 to help them do just that)! So, needless to say, mom Griet came to the rescue by finding a big enough piece of fabric in the extra fabric we were giving each of the students, and then, with her help, I could again figure out how to do the lined bags!

The women were really excited about all their items as well as the “lucky packets” with fabric, scissors, habedashery, etc. that they could take home.
