Very good first day!

Monday morning Rosanne kicked off the abnormal psychology training with the pastors, while I went into town to pick up supplies. Ross worked with Emmanuel and the local caretakers, along with Charles, on some of the maintenance tasks around the training centre. Allan continued the afternoon with Pasters training teaching narritive theoropy. Charles visited the […]

Are we there yet?

This is the question that was repeatedly asked, and today the answer was finally “YES”!! We stayed overnight in a very artistic place called ‘Corner Point Lodge’ in Namwala. I was impressed in how beautiful they made the gardens and also that they used an artist from Mumbwa to make beautiful sculptures throughout the facility. […]

Setting out to Masasabi

This morning the EMI team presented the summary of their work with the Life Impact Training Centre Board before each group would go their separate ways. They then helped the Canadian team load up the two vehicles with 8 big bags filled with gifts to the three communities that will be visited. The team picked […]

Canadians arrive safely!

Impact Team 2023 gathered at my house the day before their planned 06H55 departure. They went to bed around 10 that night as they had to leave around 3am to be in time for the flight. When they woke up they found out that their flight was cancelled and that they were to fly another […]

EMI team safely in Livingstone; Canadians enroute

Last night the EMI team concluded their stay with one night in Shiluwe Lodge on lake Itezhi-tezhi after intense work at the training centre, and today we had a leisurely drive through the Kafue National park seeing lots of game! I tried to take them to the Elephant orphanage, but for some reason, my coordinates […]

EMI wrapping up and Canadians on their way

I aam absolutely amazed and thankful in what was achieved over the last few days! Yesterday the EMI team did a presentation to the Life Impact Training Centre Board and pastors of the conceptual design they developed together. They marked out where the main admin /office block would be and the whole group walked there […]

Sad passing of a child

Last night, Pastor Emanuel received word that his niece’s one-year old child was very sick with vomiting and diaria. He went to pick her up from the clinic with his motorbike to take her to the hospital in Itezhi-tezhi. On their way, the motorbike had a puncture and he managed to arrange for the child […]

Relaxing Sunday

Today was special. It was a wonderful service in Itezhi-tezhi with several of the branch churches attending who each had a group to lead songs. The visitors all recieved a heartfelt welcome! Ben led the service from 2 Kings 4 about the widow’s oil jar and how God uses what one has to multiply when […]

Busy days

The last two days were quite busy with several meetings between EMI and the Life Impact Training Centre Board. The first discussions were about space use: where to situate the acedemic / learning activities, sports, public spaces and dormitories. It was great to see the interaction and participation of the board on this matter. While […]

EMI’s first day

Yesterday was the first full day of work by the EMI (Engineering Ministries International) and I’m in awe of how God brought together such a group! We walked through the property listening to the vision of Daniel and his team and discerning God’s will for this space. What touched me most was the passion and […]

EMI arrives, Vic Falls and elephants!

The EMI team all arrived safely in Livingstone after a few tense moments with overbooked flights. The highlight was a beautiful visit to the falls just before sunset. And as we left filled with feeling of awe and peacefulness, we were surprised with a whole herd of elephants crossing the road just outside of town! […]

Arrived in Livingstone!

This morning we left Francistown early after a good night’s sleep, a quick coffee and rusks. We met my cousin Francois approx 40km from Nata where he is working as both a doctor AND dentist. The new bridge at Kazangulu from Botswana to Zambia is impressive! But it took about 1.5 to 2 hours to […]

Sweet reunion ❤️

My flight from Doha to Jo’burg was good and I was met by my aunt Corrie and step-uncle Fred. We were back at their home in the northern side of Tshwane in time for sunrise and the beautiful view of the flock of Helmeted Guineafowl. Soon after, my mom joined, and later my cousin Cornelia […]

Doha airport

My route took me from Toronto to Pilidelphia to Doha, Qatar. It was a good connection to quickly finalize accommodations in Livingstone. And for the first time in a looong time I’m hearing Afrikaans being spoken in a public space! There is a mom and three girls sitting across me in the departure lounge!

On my way!

First of all a HUGE thank you to Martyn Vos who helped me get this blog website going! And then to everyone who donated items that made it into the suitcases the last couple days!! Thank you to Aidan who surprised me with a fantastic toasted sandwich and coffee while I scrambled to get everything […]
